Dear FCAST members and those considering joining us,

Thank you for your membership and/or considering being a member of Frederick County Advocates for Swim Teams (FCAST). We need your support to protect swimming and diving in Frederick County. This email can be distributed to all FSSL, FCPS and club swim teams.

On the heels of our first public event,the Relay Carnival, our membership drive is underway. The event was a huge success. (Check out www.fredericknewspost.com December 31, 2009 for the article) Currently, FCAST has 68 paid family members and 11 paid individual members. Our members come from the clubs MAC, FAST, YMCA, NBAC and Health Unlimited swim clubs. 8 of the 9 high school teams (Linganore was unable to attend the Relay Carnival but has assured of their support), and 9 of the 15 FSSL teams. BUT WE NEED TO INCREASE OUR MEMBERSHIP IN JANUARY.

The FCPS Board of Education will announce proposed budget cuts in February. Our goal is to have at least 200 paid family members by January 31. With that FCAST will have a much louder voice to advocate for swimming and diving. Please encourage others to join our ranks.

We have written bylaws and filed paperwork as a 501 (c) 3 with the state of Maryland and soon will be a registered non-profit organization. When our membership drive is complete and our status is official we will have our first meeting of all FCAST members at large. In that meeting, we will elect our leadership. After we keep the pools again, our real work begins. Future plans include:

1. Meeting with principals, athletic directors and pool operators at the 3
local FCPS pools and asking questions and offering our support.

2. Planning more events to promote swimming. Like swim camps or getting
Michael Phelps out to address a Maryland crowd fighting to keep swimming
going.

3. Formulating a plan to have a major aquatics center built in Frederick.
