Responds to FCAST Letter Dear
Mr. Kavanaugh –
While I agree the swimming programs in the County school system are
important and should not be cut, as the previous BoCC had threatened
to do. This to me was a scare tactic to increase pressure on the public
to allow increases in funding that were not necessary for the BoE. You
are correct, while the BoE controls the functions and how the funding
that comes from the BoCC is allocated, the BoCC does have a say in what
it funds.
I think a regional aquatics center is a great idea, I just think it
should be built with private funds. If there is a market for this type
of facility, someone will build it at their cost and in a competitive
environment, the price for use should be at market rates. No different
than the Sportsplex that is currently in Frederick.
As I stated, within the Public Schools, I am in favor of the phys ed
/ swimming programs. I agree with funding those as we have in the past,
I am opposed to funding an entirely separate facility with taxpayer funds
that would not be self sustaining and not be representative of the entire
tax base that is funding the facility.
I hope this answers your questions, if you need to discuss in more detail,
please email or call.
Sincerely,
Kirby Delauter - BoCC Candidate.
